SDMA issues avalanche warning

Jammu, Mar 04: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir today issued a medium and low danger avalanche warning for different high-altitude areas of the state owing to the recent snowfall.

The avalanche warning was issued by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) on the basis of information received from Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), an official spokesman said.

He said medium danger avalanche warning has been issued for Baramulla, Gulmarg, Furkian-Z Gali, Kupwara-Chowkibal-Tangdhar, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kargil, Leh and Gurez Sector in Kashmir division.

Low danger warning has been issued for Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar and Udhampur  in Jammu division besides Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam districts in the valley and Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the spokesman said.

He said people living in avalanche-prone high-altitude areas have been advised to take precautionary measures.
