Seeks justice for ‘oppressed jail inmates’

Srinagar, Mar 01: A separatist delegation led by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik met the Chairman and members of State Human Rights Commission here today and apprised them about the “plight of prisoners facing state vengeance”.

Malik led a delegation to the office of SHRC here and met with the Chairman Justice(retd.)  Bilal Nazki and other members of commission attracted their attention towards the “ongoing revengeful assault against Kashmiri inmates especially those lodged at central jail Srinagar,” separatists said in a joint statement here.

It said the delegation expressed serious concern on shifting of those facing life imprisonment, under-trials, political prisoners and other detainees to various Jammu jails.

“The so-called rulers and police by shifting these inmates and committing atrocities on them are doing illegal and unethical job,” the statement quoted the delegation as having to the SHRC while emphasizing the need of providing justice to these inmates.

“Commission listened to the plea and asked to submit a written complaint, which will be submitted at the office of SHRC tomorrow (March 02, 2018), “ the statement said.

The statement quoted Syed Ali shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik as saying that “everything possible will be done to provide justice to Kashmiri inmates who are being penalized by so-called rulers and their police unreasonably and illegally.”

They said “on one hand police boasted about having busted the whole escape case within hours, arrested many and as usual handed them over to NIA, but and on the other hand has shifted poor inmates who are booked under PSA, held as lifers or under-trials from Srinagar to various Jammu jails. This is nothing but taking revenge from non-concerned and also putting a curtain on their own failures and frustrations by so-called rulers and occupational authorities,” they alleged.
