2 held for ‘cyber crime’

Kulgam, Feb 23: Two persons have been arrested in Kulgam on charges of “maligning image” of a local Imam through social networking sites.

According to a police spokesman, a complaint was received at Police Station Qazigund on 11th January 2018, from Imam/Khateeb at Jamia Masjid Neepora — Gowhar Ahmed  Qadri of Malpora Mirbazar — that some unknown persons have created a fake Facebook account on his name wherein a porn photo was uploaded to defame him.

A case (FIR no 10/2018) under section 66C, 66D, 67 of Information Technology Act and 419 RPC was registered and a special Investigation team was constituted to investigate the matter.

Following investigations, two persons — Sohaib Ahmed Parray and Junaid Mushtaq Parray, residents of Neepora, were arrested, spokesman said, adding that further investigation into the matter is going on.

Police has urged the youth of Kashmir, particularly those of district Kulgam, to not use social media platforms for criminal activities. The police also appealed the users to avoid posting objectionable comments, photographs or articles against anyone.
