Sparsh Leprosy campaign held at Budgam
DC presents healthcare kits to patients
BUDGAM, JANUARY 30: A daylong awareness programme was organized by the Department of Health under Sparsh Leprosy awareness campaign, here today.
The Deputy Commissioner Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC stressed on the Health Department to create awareness for the eradication of the disease from the district. She said that Leprosy disease is totally curable at all stages and is not a communicable disease and signs and symptoms help to detect the cases.
She said that the disease is as curable as others. Refuting the myths and social stigma associated with the disease, she said there is no need to feel panic about it.
She said at present there are only 12 cases of Leprosy in the district and all of them are being provided medicines and required healthcare services free of cost.
Among others present were CMO Budgam Dr Nazir Ahmad Dar, District Tuberculosis Officer Budgam, various other Medical Officers and officials.
Meanwhile, the DC distributed healthcare kits consisting of blanket, shoes and gloves among the leprosy patients on the occasion.
