Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal authorities on Tuesday removed three CRPF bunker constructed in early nineties at the busy Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar.

The demolition was hailed by local residents and businessmen.

Locals, who had assembled at the spot when the bunkers was being removed, were elated to watch the demolition.

“We always demanded removal of these bunker. These had encroached upon our rightful space. We have reclaimed our own space,” said a local shopkeeper who was all praise for newly elected Mayor of Srinagar, JunaidAzimMatoo, who made it to happen.

Sources said that the SMC workers in the wee today reached the spot and started demolishing the bunkers.

Sources said that the directions to remove the bunkerswasgiven by the recently elected Mayor, JunaidAzimMatoo who also visited the spot this morning.

Meanwhile, Srinagar Mayor, JunaidAzamMattu tweeted:

“All three bunkers at the end of AmiraKadal Bridge (towards HSH Street) have been demolished. Will be developed as a Park by SMC now and maintained in coordination with the local DastageerSahab (RA) Shrine Auqaf Committee…”
