Electric wires, poles in dire straits; pose threat to life and property

Shopian, Dec 09: Decayed poles and outdated transmission lines pose threat to residents of Durapora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district which has become a major reason for erratic power supply in the area.

The locals said that there has been no replacement of electric wires and poles since the village got electrified. “Transmission lines have been installed on tilted poles due to which short circuits have become a routine,” they added.

The residents said that they are now fed up with the frequent short circuits and faulty electric transmission lines. “Either the department should replace the faulty wires or cut down the power supply to village,” they added.

Residents said: “If PDD lacks funds for replacing the wires then the department should inform us so that we can collect funds on village level for the same.”

When contacted Assistant Executive Engineer PDD Sub-division Chitragam said: “Residents of said village should make a representation of their demand so that we can make an estimate of the work.”
