Panchayat polls: 101 year old woman casts her vote in Uri

Baramulla: An elderly and ailing 101 year old woman Roshi Begium wife of Mohammad Gazi trudged half kilometre to cast her vote at a polling station in Razerwani area of Uri in north kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday  in the first phase of the panchayat elections.

She was assisted by her son and daughter to visit the polling booth set up Government Middle School Rajarwani Uri along Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway.

Defying cold and boycott calls, she said thatshe cast her vote for to see an end to her abject poverty.

Visibly looking very fragile and taking long breaths, nothing could not stop her to exercise her franchise.

It may be mentioned that the 1st phase of panchayat elections began with a full swing from today in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
