Srinagar, Oct 27: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer was killed in a militant attack in Budgam district of central Kashmir, police said Saturday.

“In the intervening night, a standoff fire by militants took place at the Grid Station Wagoora in Budgam district in which one ASI of CISF sustained serious bullet injuries,” a police spokesman said.

He said the attack was, however, successfully repulsed by the alert sentry at the spot.

Meanwhile militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack.

“The cadres of the Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit carried out a sniper and grenade attack on a CISF check post in Wagoora, Nowgam, killing officer Rajesh Kumar and wounding several others,” Mohammad Hassan, a spokesperson of the militant outfit said in a statement issued to news  agency GNS.

The spokesperson said militant outfit would carry out more attacks “as revenge for every person martyred in Kulgam by Indian forces recently.”

Jaish also claimed responsibility for three attacks on forces at Gagran and Mantribugh in Shopian district, in which it said several army troopers and policemen were injured in “sniper and grenade attacks.”
