TRI to play key role in tribal research: Secy Tribal Affairs
Dr Lone visits construction site at Khimber
SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 14: Secretary, Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs & Cooperatives, Farooq Ahmad Lone today visited the construction site of J&K’s maiden Tribal Research Institute (TRI) coming up at Khimber, Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar.
He was accompanied by Director Tribal Affairs Mohamed Rafi, and concerned engineers of R&B Department.
The institute is coming up at a cost of Rs 7.53 cr and is funded by Ministry of Tribal affairs, Government of India. Rs 2.90 cr have been released to the executing agency till date for the construction of the institute building.
Establishment of TRI is aimed at studying tribal culture and languages holistically and to explore the possibilities for better economic growth of the tribal communities.
Dr Lone directed the executing agency for expediting the construction while maintaining quality of work to ensure completion of the project within stipulated time.
He said setting up of TRI would play a significant role in the research on tribal issues besides synergizing the efforts and activities of various departments and organizations on the subject of Tribal Affairs.
