Srinagar: Reacting to the statement of NC’s Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, BJP’s spokesperson Khalid Jehangir has said that BJP is a national party and has been active in the state since independence.

It does not need the offices of PDP or NC to be introduced. PDP was an ally. But our first ally in the state was the National Conference. It has been the traditional ploy of these parties to bend their back backwards showering praises when they are enjoying power in an alliance and then berating the same when out of power,” he said in a letter addressed to Ruhullah.

Jehangir asked Aga Ruhullah to check with the meeting schedules of NC top leadership when they are in Delhi ‘in a begging mode.’

Reacting to charges of low poll percentage, he asked NC to check the poll percentage in the last Parliament elections when their top most leaders Dr Farooq Abdullah got elected.

“The total poll percentage when NC and PDP contested, in the Srinagar Municipal area was less than two percent ( 2%). That speaks volumes about the attractiveness of both the parties put together. Incidentally both are products of poll boycott in 1996 and 2002,” he said, adding, “I take exception to calling someone fringe in the society. I request Aga sahib to define “FRINGE”. It shows the elitist mindset of this party who look down up some sections of the society and call them fringe.”
