Sopore:  The inhabitants of Jadeed Bhagat colony of Sopore on Monday staged strong protest demonstration against Public Health Engineering Department alleging acute scarcity of drinking water.

“We are facing water shortage from last week and nobody bothers to look into the crises. We women are forced to take to streets ahead of Eid as there is no water to drink, cook and wash,” said Naseema Begum.

The residents of Jadeed Bhagat colony of Sopore alleged that the Public Health Engineering Department has failed to restore the water supply in the area since past one week despite repeated pleas. However, the concerned authorities are clueless.

Meanwhile, Executive Engineer  PHE division Sopore said that there is shortage of water due to summer and people are using portable water in kitchen gardens instead of drinking.

“Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha people are using more and more water due to which people from adjoining villages are suffering. We will send a water tanker to those areas where water crisis has erupted,” the official said.
