Budgam, Aug 11: Police in Budgam on Saturday claimed to have solved a murder case of a Charar-i-Sharief youth whose body was recovered from a dam in Yusmarg on July 10 after he was missing since June 24.

In a press briefing here, SSP Budgam Tejinder Singh said that police have arrested three persons involved in the killing of Sameer Ahmad Dar, 22, of Watkulu, Charar-i-Sharief.

“On June 27, Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Watkulu lodged a complaint in police post Pakherpora regarding his son Sameer Ahmad Dar going missing from June 24. Accordingly a missing report was lodged and police began efforts to trace the youth, and recovered his dead body on July 10 from Yusmarg dam,” the SSP informed.

He said police constituted a SIT headed by SDPO Khansahib to investigate the matter.

During investigation, police zeroed in on three persons — Habibullah Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar and Shahid Ahmad Dar, son of GhulamMohammad Dar of Doonkulpathri,  and Shahid Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Nasarpora Shopian, the police officer said.

He said investigation also revealed that the motive for commission of crime was a grudge against deceased, “on account of affair of deceased with sister of one of the accused.”

Singh said, “The love affair of girl with the deceased was not acceptable for Habibullah (girl’s brother). In order to take revenge, Habibullah killed Sameer.”

Police said that call details of the deceased helped them crack the case.

“After the trio killed Sameer, girl as usual called him on his number. Habibullah picked up the phone and told girl that Sameer is no more,” police said.
