Charas worth Rs one crore seized in JK’s Kathua

Kathua, Aug 07: Police today arrested a drug peddler and recovered 45 kilograms charas from his possession, whose market value is estimated at Rs one crore.

Hailing from Maharashtra’s Thane, Mohammad Zakir Sheikh was attempting to transport the high grade contraband outside the state when he was caught, senior superintendent of police, Kathua, Shridhar Patil said.

A police party intercepted a Punjab-bound vehicle near Chadwal along Jammu-Pathkot highway and recovered the drugs from a specially build cavity, Patil told reporters here.

The driver of the vehicle was booked under NDPS act, Patil added.

Quoting preliminary investigation, he said more arrests and recoveries were expected in the case.

The recovery comes a day after 51 kilograms of heroin worth over Rs 250 crore was seized from a truck in Jammu and 1400 kgs of poppy husk was recovered from Lakhanpur toll post in Kathua bordering Punjab.
