Shopian, Aug 01: Bringing a ray of hope for farmers in Shopian district, the price of pear touches a new high here.

The changing weather pattern and incessant rains had considerably affected the fruit production in the district but with a positive improvement in the price of pears, the farmers here are heaving a sigh of relief.

Local farmers told ‘Kashmir Images’ that as compared to previous year the production of pear is low, but the market is exceptionally high. “In the previous year, the rates were as low as 250-300 rupees per box but this year the demand for pear has improved which has increased its price,” they added.

One of the growers of Shopian district, Arif Hussain, said, “Although the quantity of pear has decreased this year but the increase in rates has brought a relief to the farmers.”

“Such is the demand for pear this year that most of the pear growers here are attracting buyers at their orchids only,” he added.

Peer Idrees, who works at Fruit Mandi Shopian, said, “Almost 10-15 vehicles of pear are being dispatched from Mandi everyday and the rates are good, starting from 600-1000 rupees per box.
