State Sqay championship kickstarts in Ganderbal

Ganderbal: Two day 5th GM Mohammad Memorial J&K state Sqay championship started on Saturday in Degree College Ganderbal.

Hundreds of Sqay fans from all over Kashmir thronged to the venue to see their favorite players playing.

According to organizers more then 700 players of various age categories are participating in the championship.

On the first day around 200 female players battled it out in five age and weight categories.

Speaking to the Kashmir images one of the female participants said, “Sqay is Indigenous martial art of Kashmir. J&K Sqay Association is promoting and developing the sport with meager resources. We lack many facilities and the Govt is not extending much support to Sqay.”

“Government should provide more support to Sqay players and the association in order to review the Sport fully on Kashmir,” she added.

Early Nazir Ahmad Senior faculty member Government physical college Ganderbal announced the championship open.

District officers Youth services and Sports, Dr Hartaj Singh and Sheikh Mohammad Shafi President, Ganderbal sports association distributed Medals and prizes among Winners and runners-up.
