Efforts on to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers: Sunil Sharma

Receiving Station inaugurated, work commissioned on 3 more in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, MAY 24: – The Minister for Power Sunil Sharma has said that the government is committed to augment the power infra by way of ensuring effective implementation of various programmes in transmission and distribution sector so that the Prime Ministers initiative of providing uninterrupted power supply to the people of the state is fulfilled.

The Minister was addressing a series of public gathering after inaugurating and laying foundation of various receiving stations here today.

Minister for FCS&CA Muhammad Ashraf Mir and Minister of State for PDD, Housing and Urban Development, Asiea Naqash were also present on the occasion. The Ministers inaugurated 33/ 11 Kv receiving station at Industrial area Khonmoh under centrally sponsored scheme PMDP. The Ministers also laid the foundation stone of three receiving stations including 33/11Kv Receiving station at Tailbal, 33/ 11KV capacity receiving station at Gassi Batpora and another one of equal capacity at Bhagwanpora under RAPDRP-B.

While referring to several initiatives undertaken for strengthening the transmission distribution system in the State, the Minister said that Union Government has sanctioned Rs 1189.59 crore under PMDP for strengthening transmission system at 220kV and 132kV level. “Tenders for all schemes in both Jammu and Kashmir provinces stand issued,” he added.

The Minister said in order to reduce AT&C losses; strengthen the sub-transmission distribution network and electrification of un-electrified household, schemes like RAPDRP, IPDS, DDUGJY & RGGVY Phase-II and Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) had been undertaken.

Sunil Sharma said the schemes should be undertaken on a mission mode so that they are successfully and speedily implemented. He said the state would fully supplement the central initiatives so that these programs are completed within the stipulated time-frame.“The Prime Minister’s vision of providing 24×7 electricity to every household of the state would be implemented in transparent and an efficient manner,” he said.

The Minister said that that there are 30 projects undertaken to improve transmission network in the state under Prime Minister’s development package where as several projects are underway for improving the distribution sector and most of these would be completed within the stipulated timelines. He said that the officers have been told to expedite work on all the projects so that their time-bound completion is ensured. He further said that the Department needs to gear up to meet people’s expectations since there is no shortage of earmarked funds for these projects.

Asiea Naqash said that the entire power sector in the state will be revolutionized in the coming time. She said that with major reforms underway, the state is getting closer to the goal of having uninterrupted electricity for all.

Chief Engineers, Shahnaz Goni, Daljeet Singh, Muzaffar Mattoo and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
